Why do I have to pay for Recycling? Isn’t it free?

It costs money to process recycling, remove contamination, and market recyclables. The   market has changed so dramatically that oftentimes processing companies must now pay to move materials.  These costs get passed on to the communities for the collection of recycled goods (curbside pick up), processing fees, contamination fees, and financial coverage for a further drop in market conditions.  Rather than pass these costs along through taxes, the fees will now be covered directly at the time of drop off.
