Exemption Information and Applications

The following tax exemption programs are designed to help reduce property tax burden. All applications are available at the Town Office or by visiting the Maine Revenue Services web site at https://www.maine.gov/revenue/taxes/property-tax.

Homestead Exemption (Homestead Exemption Application)

This program provides a measure of property tax relief for individuals that have:

  • Reduces your taxable valuation by $25,000
  • Owned homestead property in Maine for at least 12 months
  • Claim the property as their permanent residence.
  • Applications are due by APRIL 1st

Once you have approved for the exemption, you do not need to apply again.

Current Exemptions (as of March 8, 2024)

Veteran's Exemption (Veteran Exemption Application)

A homeowner may be eligible for a reduction in the valuation of their property if they:

  • Have their permanent residence in Kennebunkport on April 1st
  • A veteran who was honorably discharged
  • Served during a recognized war period in the U.S. Armed Forces
  • Are 62 or older or an unremarried widow/widower of a qualifying veteran
  • Are under 62 but 100% disabled due to a service-related disability
  • Applications are due by APRIL 1st

An application along with proof of service and discharge, such as a copy of their DD214 must be provided.  For veterans who served during World War II or later the exemption is a $6,000 reduction in valuation.
