Future Land Use Workshop
Kennebunkport’s Growth Planning Committee convened a public work session on September 27 to explore land uses that are permitted in various parts of town, and whether adjustments to the Land Use Ordinance would be desirable. We also examined development patterns, dimensional requirements in the ordinance, and the community’s options for preparing for a rising sea.

The conversation is far from over, and for that reason the committee welcomes additional comments, either at GPC@kennebunkportcp.info, or alternately at the committee’s meetings that are held via Zoom on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, commencing at 6 PM.

What Should Kennebunkport Look Like in 2030?
Thank you to all who joined us at the Nonantum on July 26!
On July 26 Kennebunkport’s Growth Planning Committee convened an interactive work session to help us visualize the community we would like to be in 2030. We welcomed input from all who have a stake in Kennebunkport’s future as we discussed the strengths and vulnerabilities of municipal infrastructure, housing, the local economy, transportation, tourism, waterfront access, and the protection of cultural and natural resources. One purpose of the session to help inform the Vision chapter of the Comprehensive Plan.

Participants were focussed and engaged for the duration.

15-Minute Community
In 2020, Anne Hildago was reelected as Mayor of Paris on a platform that promised to transform Paris into a 15-minute city, i.e. one in which residents are able to meet most of their basic needs within a 15-minute walk or bicycle ride from their homes. The concept has lately become a global phenomenon.
It seems unlikely that Kennebunkport will achieve 15-minute status anytime soon, however it is worthwhile to explore options that would allow Kennebunkport residents to rely less on motor vehicles. We will be polling local residents seeking to identify the types of goods and services that require a drive out of town.
In the meantime, feel free to experiment with this 15-minute app that identifies the types of merchants and services that are situated close to your home. The app includes options to measure a 15-minute walk, a 20-minute walk, and a 15-minute drive.
About This Project
Kennebunkport’s last Comprehensive Plan was adopted by Town Meeting in 2012. Maine’s Growth Management Act requires that such plans be updated every ten years, or sooner if circumstances warrant. In September 2019, the Town hired professional planning consultants to assist the Growth Management Committee with a major update to the plan. The Project Schedule anticipates a complete plan by the end of 2021.
The Growth Planning Committee meets at 6PM on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. All are welcome to attend the meetings. Videos of past meetings are available on the Town’s YouTube channel. You may also watch the meetings live at KennebunkportTV. The committee prepares agendas & minutes for every meeting.
