Meeting called to order via zoom at 6:30.

Present: Joe Frank, Jenne James, Gillet Page, Jennifer Comeau and Carol Laboissonniere

 

1. Joe reported that the KCC Facebook page links to the Town website. He will contact Tracey to request that the KCC Town Website link to the KCC Facebook page.

2. Further discussion on the swimming pool discharge issue. We need to contact the state Water Quality department to get regulation information.

3. Gill advised of plastic bag bans starting date of 7/1/2021.

4. Carol reported on the Portland Pesticide Management Advisory Committee meeting of 2/2/21. Members on the PMAC committee want to include all type of plant material – trees, shrubs, gardens, vegetable gardens – in the fertilizer regulations. The PMAC members split on this issue. Carol disagreed with this proposal to restrict all types of plant material and fertilizer in the regulations which would be detrimental to trees and plants.

5. Discussion on working with or sharing information with Conservation Trust interns from UNE who are focusing on conservation and K-5 environmental education. Suggestion to post the information on the Facebook page.

6. Jennifer and Jenne updated educational plan ideas.

7. Committee review and discussion on the Annual Report document which Carol prepared.

8. Carol will contact Code Enforcement about stormwater filtration systems and excessive tree removal without replanting in new housing developments. 

9. Discussion of native plants, pros and cons of advice to homeowners. Jennifer requests that “Rewild Landscape” be put on next meeting agenda.

10. Discussed including informational articles in town mailings.

11. Next meeting 4/12/2021 at 6:30 via zoom.
