Kennebunkport Emergency Management

Kennebunkport Emergency Management maintains the Town's Comprehensive Emergency Plan and works with local, county, state, and federal officials to prepare for possible disaster situations. In an actual emergency, we will establish an Emergency Operations Center and coordinate our community's response to the situation.

In recent years, Kennebunkport Emergency Management has revised and implemented the Weapons of Mass Destruction portion of our Emergency Plan in conjunction with York County EMA and Maine State EMA. We also assisted Southern Maine Regional Planning in the preparation of the county-wide Hazard Mitigation Plan which was subsequently endorsed by the Board of Selectmen. The mitigation portion of Kennebunkport's emergency plan is required for the Town to be eligible for federal disaster relief funds.

Kennebunkport Emergency Management is also coordinating the Town’s compliance with the federally-mandated National Incident Management System (NIMS). NIMS was developed by FEMA in response to the September 11th terrorist attacks and represents a national set of standards in responding to future disasters. Compliance, which includes training for most all town employees, is required for the Town to remain eligible for federal funding.

The 2007 Patriot's Day Storm resulted in numerous downed trees, including this one along Maine Street that severely damaged a home.
