General Assistance

The General Assistance Program is a state mandated program for the provision of basic needs for eligible applicants. Basic needs include: rent, food, utilities, fuel, and other services essential to maintaining individuals who are Kennebunkport residents. All assistance is granted in voucher form. No cash assistance is issued.

Please complete the General Assistance application before contacting the Town of Kennebunkports Public Health Office for a budget review appointment. The Public Health Office can be reached at 207-967-4401 Monday-Thursday 8:00-4:00pm, or if after hours please contact Kennebunkport Police Dept. at 207-967-2454. They will contact the on call general assistance administrator.  Applications are available online here or at the Public Health Department.You may be asked to apply for all eligible benefits at Department of Health and Human Services before your General Assistance review. Any questions please don't hesitate to ask. We will assist you as best as we can in this process. We will need the following information in order to process your application:

  • General Assistance Application
  • Proof of all household income
  • Proof of all household expenses
  • Current bank statements
  • Outstanding bills
  • Additional information may be requested after the initial review. 

All household members (everyone living at your address) financial status is to be included in the paperwork even if they are not a family member. General Assistance is a State of Maine DHHS Program. Information provided is subject to the Town of Kennebunkport's DHHS yearly audit.

Food and Personal Needs  

Church Community Food Pantry serves residents of Arundel, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport Monday-Friday. Residents are requested to contact the Public Health Department if they are in need of food or personal supplies assistance-967-4401. Weekly produce pantry is also available, Friday morning at 9am, St Martha's church. For other congregate meals contact the public health office for location/times.

York County Shelter: The York County Shelter Pantry is located at 147 Shaker Hill Road, Alfred. Phone number is 207-324-1137.

Meals on Wheels: Seniors who wish meals to be delivered to their homes should contact the Southern Maine Area on Aging at 1-800-400-6325 or click here!!

Single Mothers - a website to assist low income single mothers with connections to grant programs related to housing, and child care. A resource. 

State of Maine Property Tax Fairness Credit: This program provides a partial refund of property tax or rent paid to eligible residents. For more information: phone #207-626-8475 or visit their website.

Fuel Assistance: LIHEAP ( Low Income Heating Assistance Program) is an income based federally funded by administered by York County Community Action for more information contact YCCA at 1-800-965-5762, 207-324-5762 or visit their website. 

Kennebunkport Emergency Fuel program:  Kennebunkport Emergency Fuel Program is funded by donations. Residents are encouraged to contact the Public Health Department for assistance at 967-4401.

Church Community Outreach Services provides assistance to Arundel, Kennebunk, and Kennebunkport residents. Contact number is 207-604-0445.

Kennebunkport Property Tax Assistance: This town of Kennebunkport funded program is offered to Kennebunkport homeowners and renters who have qualified for the State of Maine Fairness Credit Program.
