CURRENT PROJECTS:
· I have continued to meet frequently with Emily Rines, director of CHCC, and have finalized the goals and objectives for our Substance Abuse Prevention Grant. Dr. Farrell has hired the candidate that we interviewed for the Prevention Specialist, Andy Grief. He is highly skilled and knowledgeable about prevention work and has tremendous experience. We will all be attending a day long meeting in Augusta on Friday, January 6th to review many aspects of our grant from the perspective of our State Contract Manager. The full MSAD #71 Steering Committee for the Grant, which now includes two students from Dr. Farrell’s Captain’s
Club, will meet next week with Andy, the new Prevention Specialist, to draft a work plan.
· I spent a great deal of December organizing and scheduling for 2006, including organizing new planning book and cleaning office and organizing papers and files.
· I continue to meet with the Bullying Prevention Committee and the MSK Civil Rights Team. The Bullying Prevention Committee has designed a survey that will go out to all the parents in January to gather more data for the two day workshop with Stan Davis, author of Schools Where Everyone Belongs, scheduled at MSK on January 30th and 31st. The CRT is in the process of brainstorming specific projects and has chosen to concentrate on developing a Civil Rights Team “home space” in a room off the library. They will also focus on communicating their mission to the rest of the student body and educating the students
about the Civil Rights laws.
· This week I am beginning a new Turn Beauty Inside Out Stretch Beyond at Sea Road School. We have six 4th grade girls signed up. We have proposed that some of the girls in our Young Women’s Lives discussion group help mentor the younger students by assisting us with the class.
