On Tuesday July 26, 2005, Kennebunkport’s staff joined representatives from the Department of Environmental Protection, Maine Geologic Survey Office, Maine Marine Resource Water Quality Program, Maine State Planning Office, Healthy Maine Beach Program and the Town of Kennebunk. The goal of this meeting was to develop a plan for researching the cause of the elevated fecal bacteria levels along Goose Rocks and Kennebunk beaches. The health and safety of our residents and guests are our first priority.
Kennebunkport has increased the water sample testing to daily. Multiple water samplings are now being scheduled to be done inland along the Batsons, Smith and Little Rivers. The Maine Geologic Survey Office will be establishing sites along our coastline to determine water current patterns. The Department of Environmental Protection is considering a very labor intensive sanitary survey. The Department of Agriculture has been asked to visit the inland area to determine if the problem may be originating there.
We want to thank you for your patience and understanding. We will keep you updated on our progress .
