Special Events

Father/Daughter Princess Gala:  This event is generally held on a Saturday evening in early spring in the Consolidated School gymnasium.  As the title implies, it is a very special program for fathers (other significant males such as grandfathers, uncles, and stepfathers may attend as well) and their daughters.  Through incredible decorations, music, and more, the gymnasium is transformed into a dreamland where "forever memories" are made.

Mother/Son Pizza and Bowling:  In order to be fair to both sexes, we developed the Mother/Son event.  We have tried a variety of programs, such as mini-golf and roller- skating, but have found the bowling and pizza to be the best attended and well received.  It generally takes place in the spring, hopefully before Little League Baseball starts just after April vacation.

Senior Citizen Van Trips:  The Kennebunkport Recreation Department realizes the important role of seniors in our community.  We need to do more to help them maintain an active lifestyle with its subsequent better health and vitality.  We annually provide several van trips such as to the Portland Symphony Orchestra's Magic of Christmas, See the Lights (a Christmastime event featuring dinner at a local restaurant and a ride around town for the beautiful scenery), fall foliage trips, shopping excursions to Freeport, and others.  We want to do more, call 967-4304 or e mail us at ccook@kennebunkportme.gov with your ideas and suggestions.

Whitewater Rafting:  In the past, this has been the culmination of our Outdoor Adventure program for ages 10-14 in the summertime. It has become so popular that we are looking at expanding the opportunities to include adults, families, and others.

Halloween Festival: Generally held the Saturday before Halloween, the Recreation Department offers a family program enjoyed by people of all ages.  Temple Street will be closed to traffic to help provide a safe environment.  The atmosphere outside has been one of "Halloween at its Finest" with decorations, games, a haunted house, and costumed children everywhere.  Volunteers are always needed to assist in this event. Sorry, but we are not hosting this event in 2011.
