Kennebunkport Cemetery Committee
Meeting Minutes
April 29, 2007
Members Present - Greg Pargellis, Ruth Fernandez, Anne Doe, Ann Sanders, Rita Schlegel
The committee unanimously elected the following new officers:
Chairperson - Ruth Fernandez
Chairperson ex officio - Greg Pargellis
Secretary - Rita Schlegel
Treasurer - Ann Sanders
Public Relations - Anne Doe
Greg discussed GPS plotting of cemeteries. He has completed approx 20 cemeteries, to date. Rita, Ann, Ruth, and Anne will continue with the remaining cemeteries. This GPS information will be provided to the town once completed.
Jim Burrows will continue to be employed to assist in maintaining the Merrill Cemetery and North Street Cemetery. In addition, he will include the School Street Cemetery.
Ruth reported that she attended the selectman meeting where they discussed committee budgets.
The Cemetery committee has requested a 2008 budget of $9500. The increase in our budget is to purchase 12 granite posts for 3 cemeteries - Adams Benson, Wildes on Bufflehead Lane and Wildes on Oak Ridge Rd. Rita and Anne will investigate costs of granite posts.
Ann S, our new treasurer, will meet with Jen Lord at the town hall to discuss the cemetery budget and the funds available for the remainder of this fiscal year.
Pending the remaining funds available, the committee prioritized the following allocations :
1. Replace 2 broken and deteriorated head stones in the School Street Cemetery. (Forest of Heritage Memorials will be contacted to do this work)
2. Order cemetery signs for the following cemeteries:
Springer Hill, Seth Grant, Deering, Robinson, Benjamin Wildes, Benjamin Adams, North Street, and Grant. (Greg will order the signs)
3. Hire Steve Bryant to provide tree work in School Street Cemetery and other cemeteries that need work.
The committee scheduled the following clean-up dates and meeting dates:
