The Town of Kennebunkport, Maine
Conservation Commission Minutes - May 2, 2005

Minutes   May 2, 2005     Kennebunkport Conservation Commission

The Commission met at 7:15 at Graves Library.

Present: Janet Weston
             Ruth Fiske
             Linda Wade

 Absent: Lynn Jourdain
               Alice Finnegan
               Dennis Rogers
Janet reported for Lynn that Lynn’s project of beautifying the ground beneath the water tower is proceeding with the KKW Water Company removing a large portion of the pavement. Ruth had joined Lynn at Consolidated School for the Native Garden Project.
The teachers are very supportive and the students have great enthusiasm.  It is they who will “lead” the project.

Janet reported that the Vernal Pool workshop at Laudholm Farm focused primarily on the threat to ocean water quality from gardens and lawns. She and Ruth reported that the Vernal Pool workshop had presented information but no “action plan” for intervening on the side of Vernal Pools.

Linda reported that our labors on Earth Day, celebrated on April 23 by the Conservation Trust.  Lynn and her husband, Ruth, Janet, and Linda met at the Trust Headquarters at 9AM and proceeded to walk the public right-of-ways, checking on the ROW signs and picking up trash. We stuck with this in intermittent rain until the job was done around noon.

There may be no need to print additional flyers for beach goers since the town has a lot left from last year. Janet was going to check with the police station as to their supply.  The money in our budget can go toward printing the Shoreland Zoning Flyer.  The rest of the evening was spent working on the wording and possible layout of that flyer which we want to distribute to:
Town office windows
Newcomers club
Libraries
Realtors
Landscapers

Linda will try to order up to 2000 Healthy Lawn Flyers from Audubon.

The meeting adjourned at 8:40PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Linda Wade
