Q. What is a Vital Record?
A. Vital records consist of birth, marriage and death records. The Town Clerk keeps all the birth, marriage and death records for the Town of Kennebunkport from 1892 to the present.
Prior to 1892 it was not mandated that these records be filed with the Town Clerk. This means that anything prior to 1892 is unofficial and few and far between.
Q. How can I get a certified copy of a birth, marriage or death record?
A. A certified copy of a birth, marriage or death record may be obtained in person or by written request to authorized persons. The cost is $15.00 for the first copy and $6.00 for each additional copy of the same record purchased at the same time.
The Town Clerk will need to know the type of vital record you are requesting, the name(s) on the record, the date of the event, a photocopy of your drivers license, a return address and a check for the proper amount payable to the Town of Kennebunkport. Mail written request to:
Town of Kennebunkport
Attn: Town Clerk
P.O. Box 566
Kennebunkport, ME 04046
The certified copy will be returned by regular mail.
