UPDATE ON STATUS OF PROPOSED
FEMA FLOOD PLAIN DESIGNATIONS
The Town of Kennebunkport has hired Bob Gerber of Sebago Technics to critique the methodology used by FEMA for the proposed changes to flood plain elevations in York County. Mr. Gerber has already completed an assessment of FEMA’s methodology and findings in Cumberland County. FEMA is currently reviewing the Sebago Technics wind and wave model analysis of the Cumberland County methodology. This forms the basis for generating wind and wave run-up models which generate Velocity Zone elevations and boundaries.
The comment and alternative methodologies submitted by Sebago Tech has pushed back the timetable for York County. FEMA is not likely to restart the comment/appeal period until Mid-March. Municipalities will be notified when the comment period will begin. The comment and appeal period is 90 days from date of official notification. If the period begins in March property owners would have until sometime in June to respond to FEMA.
Modeling and specific transect review by Sebago Technics for Kennebunkport is projected to be complete towards the end of February. When this work is available the Town will release the results and post the work on the Town’s web site.
